David Amour started guitar lessons at age seven, began playing in rock bands in the early 1960s, and signed with Capitol Records in 1968 as a singer-songwriter.
He toured with various bands until 1985. Amour became interested in building guitars after reading lutherie books by William Cumpiano, Arthur Overholtzer, Irving Sloane, and Roy Courtnall. He built his first two classical guitars in 1994 and his first steel-string flattop in 1998 at his shop in California.
